Dear Below-the-Fold Entrecarder
This is my open discussion post for people who put their widgets below the fold, inspired by a post on learnhow2earn.com. I came upon his site when I got bored of dropping the ‘normal’ way and decided to do it the “divablogger” way. I selected a popular category (Internet Marketing), closed my eyes, and just started right clicking randomly (opens the link in a new window/tab) til I counted ten.
Not everyone does it that way, though. And, since his site isn’t in the top 3 of his category, it is a good idea for him to put his widgets above the fold to get listed in Entrecard directories. Just so Entrecard members can find him faster.
Are you aware of Entrecard directories?
There are a lot of smart people who created bookmarking tools, link lists and what-not for promoting sites with widgets above the fold. See, placing it somewhere more accessible makes it convenient for people to drop their cards, and hence they will also advertise on your widget because you are a considerate person and you have the good heart to display their ads in a place that will get eyeballs.
Being in directories (which are strongly promoted by the creators) is like being a part of the daily life of entrecarders who use these directories and are too lazy to create their own. If that doesn’t seem like a good thing to you, I don’t know what is.
Joining the lists is simple. Simply put your widget above the fold then message the guy with the purple face (ahkong.net) or the vegetable persona (turnipofpower.com) and ask to be listed. These 2 have the most extensively used directories and you will benefit a lot just by being listed there.
As for the “use your head, people” phrase… I did use my head and something else. And, I put my widget above the fold because it’s the smart thing to do.
